Getting Started with the Skills Awareness Course
The Skills Awareness course is the best place to begin your Fleetcoach training.
This course focuses on the key skills that help keep you safe on the road.
What to Expect
- Introduction tutorial: The course starts with a tutorial. Make sure your audio is working, or read the tutorial text carefully.
- Three modules: The course has three main sections:
- Visual Search
- Hazard Perception
- Risk Management
- Four scenario types: Each module includes one or more different types of scenarios to help you practise your skills.
How to complete the course
- You do not need to finish the whole course in one go. You can stop after any question and return later to continue. If you start a question, you must finish it before ending your session.
- Before each new scenario type, you’ll see a short tutorial explaining what to do. When a question starts, you’ll be told what is expected. Reminder text will appear during videos to guide you.
Tracking your progress
- Progress Donuts: Each section shows your progress with a circular progress indicator.
- Course Progress Bar: A bar at the bottom of the window shows your overall progress through the course.
Feedback and Results
- After each question, you’ll see feedback on how you did. If you answer correctly, you’ll see which skills you used and how your skill level improved. If you answer incorrectly, you’ll get a hint to help you next time. You can rewatch the video, but you won’t be asked the questions again during the review.
- Sometimes, you’ll be asked how confident you are in your answer.
- At the end of each module, you’ll see a summary of your progress and skills.
- When you finish the course, you’ll see your overall score and a breakdown of your skills. You need at least a 3-star rating to get your certificate, but your employer may require a higher score. You can retry any scenarios you didn’t pass..
Scenario Types
Fleetcoach uses four types of scenarios:
- Visual Search: Watch a video and answer a question about what you saw.
- Static Hazard Perception: When the video stops, click on all immediate hazards.
- Dynamic Hazard Perception: Click on hazards as they appear during the video.
- Risk Management: Click when you see something risky, then answer a question about how to handle the situation.
